In Tampere, there has been a great deal of talk this week about this topic. At the University of Tampere, Finnish president\u00a0<em>Sauli Niinist\u00f6<\/em>\u00a0gave a speech about reconciliation; at the Vapriikki Museum Centre, historian\u00a0<em>Teemu Keskisarja\u00a0<\/em>strongly criticized post-war actions\u00a0like hasty executions and prison camps. At an event for non-fiction writers, journalist\u00a0<em>Hannu Koskela<\/em>\u00a0interviewed history researcher\u00a0<em>Tuomas Hoppu<\/em>, who was the expert behind Vapriikki&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/vapriikki.fi\/en\/nayttelyt\/tampere1918\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=fi&amp;q=http:\/\/vapriikki.fi\/en\/nayttelyt\/tampere1918\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1523300475836000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH_FT_3pJFwsspihUfilcqoUNc5zA\">1918 exhibition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Hoppu<\/em>\u00a0said he was sorry that people have once again started to argue about the name of the war. From the very beginning, Finns have used many names, such as\u00a0<em>Civil War<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Internal War, Liberation War, Revolution<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Red Riot,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Class War<\/em>. Academics have often used the phrase the\u00a0<em>1918 War in Finland<\/em>. Both\u00a0<em>Civil War\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Internal War\u00a0<\/em>are also interpreted as neutral. The\u00a0<em>Liberation War<\/em>\u00a0was the name the Whites used, while the Reds use the\u00a0<em>Rebellion<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0<em>Revolution<\/em>. The\u00a0<em>Liberation<\/em>\u00a0conveyed the idea of freedom from Russian dominance, while\u00a0<em>R<\/em><em>evolution\u00a0<\/em>emphasized the workers\u2019 struggle for power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Especially in Tampere, the 1918 events continue to fuel a lively debate. These tragic events touched so many local families that we still need to obtain detailed, carefully researched information.
